In 2008, the Village enacted a housing code for all Village structures. The enforcement of this code was not consistent or actively pursued. The summer of 2012 the Streets and Sidewalk Committee started a new program named “Neat Streets” which provided a consistent process to the established housing code. The goal was to improve the aesthetics of the Village with a positive and effective enforcement communication of the code requirements. The Committee created a check list and grading system and personally inspected every address in the Village. The end result was Village properties that are maintained showing pride in the community and respect for neighbors. Upon inspection, letters to every resident were sent. A letter of congratulations and appreciation to those property owners that maintain their properties or a letter citing required improvements to those that need attention. The committee will be looking at ways to assist those owners that sincerely need help in completing these improvements. It is a program that will help create a culture that will maintain a better looking Village for the benefit of all.
