Casa Lucia Celebrating Five Years
Casa Lucia, a 34-unit independent living facility for people 55 and over, celebrated their fifth year with a community open house.
"All units are full and there is a need for more," said Lynn Rose, Casa Lucia community manager.
"I visited when they first opened and today, saw many of the same residents," said Mayor Ben Garlich. "I spoke to these residents who expressed how much they enjoy living at Casa. The facility looks as new as the day they opened five years ago."
This housing project, driven through a Geauga community partnership, included the Department on Aging, United Way and the Board of Mental Health.
"The Family First Council initiated a study in the community and built plans around looking for affordable housing," said Kimm Leininger, executive director United Way Services Geauga County. "Catholic Charities ran with it! So it is wonderful to see a community study go from talking to actuality ... and it is really meeting a huge need."
"Father Burkley at SS Edward Lucy offered land and the Village of Middlefield was open to development," added Maryellen Staab, director of Housing Development, Catholic Charities.
