The Middlefield Village Service Department is responsible for the operation of a state-of-the-art water and sewage treatment plant, built in 2008 and 2010 respectively. With an average daily flow around 600,000 gallons, the Waste Water Treatment Plant is designed to treat one million gallons per day with a peak flow up to two million per day. This pressure filter plant is designed to oxidize, filter and remove iron, manganese and the attached arsenic. Typically, our filtered water has no iron or manganese arsenic in the 2 parts per billion range, well below the new 10 parts per billion limit. Consequently, the Village of Middlefield provides safe, delicious water for our residents.

The Village of Middlefield’s Division of Water is dedicated to providing a safe and adequate supply of water to the citizens of the Village for public consumption and fire protection in the most efficient and reliable manner for the present and future and to meet all Federal and State permit limitations.
The Water Treatment Plant is located north of town, as is the aquifer that the Village water is pumped from.  This plant was constructed in 2008 to meet all current EPA standards.  This is a state-of-the-art facility.  This new facility is able to treat up to 2 million gallons of water per day.  Our supply is adequate to meet the needs of any industry heavily dependent on water.

The Village of Middlefield’s Wastewater Treatment Facility originally consisted of two mixing lagoons, one settling lagoon and an Imhoff tank for treatment.  The plant was designed to meet the needs of the growing Village and EPA standards.  The construction cost at the time of $10.8 million  increased the capability of  the plant to be able to treat an average daily flow of 1.5 million gallons, with a peak flow of 3 million gallons.

The Middlefield Wastewater Treatment Plant includes three processing buildings, an operations building and covers 20 acres of land.  The plant is run and maintained by licensed operators.  The plant discharged approximately 253,549,000 million gallons of water in 2025.
