Geauga Veteran’s Sports Fest
The first annual Geauga Veteran’s Sport Fest was a tremendous success. Tickets sales, side raffles and other day-off fundraisers amounted to almost $80,000. The Veterans groups throughout the county, Middlefield Chamber of Commerce and Great Lakes Outdoor Supply would like to thank the many area sponsors, supporters and attendees for making this venture such a fabulous, worthwhile event.
On Saturday, Sept. 14, hundreds of locals and tourists gathered at the Great Lake Outdoor Supply in Middlefield to support our area Veterans by participating in a 50-item sportsmen raffle. The Geauga Veteran’s Sport Fest featured guns, sports equipment and cash which was raffled off throughout the day. Prior to this day’s event, thousands of tickets were purchased locally, and online at GeaugaVets.com from all over the continent.
During the day, five winning tickets were drawn every 30 minutes for five hours. Beginning at 6 pm, the Fort Huntsburg Band entertained on throughout the evening and fireworks, sponsored by the Village of Middlefield, were set off at dark.
Two remarkable acknowledgements were made during the day. Chief of Fire in Middlefield, Bill Reed, was presented with a lifetime achievement award and Hacy Green was presented with a flag in memory of his late son, Michael, who sacrificed his life for our country in Afghanistan.
This event will benefit Geauga County-based American Legion posts, Veterans of Foreign Wars posts, the Geauga Veterans Service Center, the Northern Ohio Handicapped Foundation and the Middlefield Chamber of Commerce.
