Recycling – What can and cannot be recycled?

Read below to learn what items can and cannot be recycled. Also, what to do if your recycle container received a blue tag due to contents not being materials that can be recycled.

What can be recycled:

Paper

Junk Mail, Newspaper, Magazines, Office Paper, Phone Books

Cardboard

Cardboard Boxes, Milk Cartons, Frozen Food Boxes, Poster Board, File Folders

Cardboard pizza delivery boxes without leftovers or liners should be recycled; but leftover crusts, cheese and other food should not.

Plastic

Only clean, empty plastic bottles and jugs are accepted. Please do not crush bottles and remove lids. All plastics numbered 1-7. Keep in mind the “chasing arrow” symbol does not always mean it’s recyclable.

Aluminum & Metal

Aluminum Beverage Cans, Food Cans

Glass

Beverage Containers, Glass Color Includes: Clear, Green, Brown

Keep "em Loose

Items that are not Accepted

Please avoid the following items:

Wood, Wax Cartons, Paint Cans, Anti-Freeze, Batteries, Light Bulbs, Motor Oil Containers (unless rinsed thoroughly), Hoses, Wire Hangers, Plastic Bags, Styrofoam (No Polystyrene Foam & Plastic), Christmas Lights, Toys, Plastic Utensils, Plastic Wrap or Film, Plastic Furniture, Yard Waste, Diapers , Medical Waste, Garage Waste, No Cups with Wax or Plastic Coatings,

Pictured below is the Middlefield Village Recycling Bin. The Bin with the YELLOW Lid is ONLY to be used for recycling. If items inside the bin are not recyclable materials a blue tag will be placed on the bin handle to explain that the contents are not recyclable and should be in the trash bin (BLACK lid) or Blue Bag if part of the Bag program**.
